The Meeting

I have finally arranged to meet the critic who had attacked my work.  He arrives thirty minutes late (I had begun assume he was standing me up).  But then we have an extremely interesting conversation.  It feels good to talk.  The ‘critic’ is suddenly an ordinary human being, one subjective opinion in the midst of many, only given power by the printed word.  (This power, however, is now being challenged by self-styled opinion makers on the internet; and a younger generation who scarcely read reviews at all.)
