choosing actors for your films
Do you choose the actors for your films,or does casting do that for you.....what sort of actor would you choose, ones with extensive theatre training or film and tv?
Have you experienced situations with actors, where they felt they just couldn't do certain scenes, because they where too nervous, what would your process be,if situations like that occured?
I ask these questions, because I have an unyeilding desire to act,but I have stage fright.
Do you have any advice on this subject?
Any information or guidance would be helpful.

Thanks.

I choose actors for many different reasons...it is probably the single most important decision i make on a film. Often, in then end, it is an intuitive process. Perhaps an actor resonates especially precisely with a role. or they seem to offer themselves to the working process with great generosity, or i adore something they have done before.

Stagefright is necessary. Everyone has fear when they take a risk, and acting is about risking exposure and failure. I try to be kind and respectful of the process but not alarmed by anyone's fear, including my own. Fear is just a feeling, albeit somtimes a useful one, either to sense when there is real danger, or as a kind of research :to be able to empathise at a feeling level with those who live life further out on the edge.
