Inspiration
I find your film, The Tango Lesson, a great inspiration to me. I am neither a dancer nor a filmmaker, but everytime I see it I feel energized creatively. I have similar feelings when I read someone like Joan Didion or Ayn Rand. Are there particular artists (in whatever form) that light that fire under you? Do you find yourself more inspired by people you can relate to professionally (dancers, etc) or by those who create in some other form?

the flame
there are so many ! where to begin ?
Eisenstein, Billie Holliday, The Marx Brothers, Taraf de Haidouks, Koudelka, Beethoven's Diabelli variations, Tom Waits, Chekhov, Orson Welles, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, Jorge Luis Borges, Osvaldo Pugliese, the Bauhaus movement, Maria Callas, De Beauvoir, Satyajit Ray, Fred Astaire, John Berger......
We are so lucky to be able to see and hear these artists' works - and a multitude of others - as if they were made yesterday. They are all our teachers, dead or alive.
I have also been fortunate in collaborating with people who have become my muses at different times, and who have lit my flame. Tilda Swinton, Rose English, Quentin Crisp, Jacky lansley, Pablo Veron, Johnny Depp, Joan Allen, Simon Abkarian..and others...and less visible (because behind the camera) key working relationships....such as with Alexei Rodionov, Carlos Conti, Osvaldo Goljov and Fred Frith. I adore my workmates and they inspire me with their longings and their genius.

Music
I must say I love Ms. Potter's inspirations. :D Who cannot love Maria Callas and Tom Waits?
What about opera and music? I know you sing and play violin (and piano?). I actually play violin and piano as well and sing opera. :S I am always curious to know of how people view such areas of music.

how on earth did you know about the violin? i stopped playing it when i was fourteen when i took up the piano, which i still play when i can.
Singing has been a big part of my life. For some years I sang in several touring music groups, some written and some improvised music. As for opera ; my first short/long film ('Thriller') was based on La Boheme (albeit in de-constructed form).
Someone said all the arts aspire to the condition of music. i cannot imagine a life without it.

I think I read it somewhere and then when I was around thirteen I contacted Amos Field and I think I mentioned it and he confirmed it. You aren't offended by that? I thought it was quite amazing personally.
I have looked everywhere for Thriller, but to no avail. I love La Boheme (Quando me n'vo is a brilliant little aria) and had wanted to play Musetta for a while, but I don't know if I wish to pursue opera anymore. Is Thriller similar to Menotti's own direction of The Medium?? I do love that film, so beautiful.
It's quite amazing your taste in music and film. You're quite brilliant. :D
