Lost in Translation???
My friend and I were wondering whether the film is going to keep its English title as it travels around the world (61 countries, is that right?) Or will it change and become Si, Oui, Ja, and so on... and how will the subtitles and/or overdub be done? What an immense and intriguing challenge.

I don’t know about the title, though I think YES as a word is widely understood. But the translation of the text is indeed a challenge. It has already been translated into German, Spanish and Turkish and I have seen the film projected for audiences with subtitles in those languages. It seemed to work. The main issue for a translator is what to do about the rhymes. It seems best to translate the dialogue very simply and directly, following the natural speech patterns of the delivery rather than trying to create another rhyming structure. As for dubbing….i am not a fan of dubbing, ever, but there is always an argument from distributors who claim audience allergy to subtitles and say that dubbing is the only way for a film to reach past a small ‘arthouse’ audience.
