Thanks for such a thought provoking piece of cinema!
Hello Sally,
I just wanted to say how very much my wife and I enjoyed Yes on Wednesday evening at the MSF gala. It was so engaging on every level: politically, aesthetically, and emotionally – as well as having a wicked sense of playfulness. Working in the business (I used to programme the ICA cinema for a few years back in the late nineties and now programme a bunch of independent screens throughout the UK as well as various other activities) I’ve never before felt the urge to put ‘pen to paper’ (so to speak!) to a director after seeing a film, but I realIy wanted to say how refreshing it was to see a British film overflowing with such ambition and imagination.
Particularly, given the current political climate, I thought your film very courageously inspired debate, stimulated the senses and frankly (and I know I’m waxing lyrically here!) nourished the soul. Given I see at least 5 films a week every week as my day job, it was such a relief to find in Yes such a multi-layered, textured, dense, adult exploration of what it means to be human with all the ignorance, cruelty, enlightenment and love that entails.
Hurrah for you and your team!
With very best wishes,
Simon

pen to paper
I am so glad you felt moved to put pen to paper, thoughts to screen. And I am particularly pleased to hear from someone working in the British film Industry. We tend to be reticent with each other and rarely use words like ' soul'. But you have, in your lovely message, for which I thank you.
