Thick white make-up? If only!
Talking about blushing –
I went through a dreadful phase at the tender age of twelve. Then a pupil at my local boys’ grammar school, I used to walk to school every day. Part of the journey included a long steep hill which I negotiated effortlessly (though not comfortably) Unfortunately, it was also on the route to the girls’ high school. I was regularly overhauled slowly up that ascent by a double-decker bus in first gear carrying lots of mime-giggling, hand waving, window tapping, nose flattened young females whose bravado was encouraged by the fact that I was alone and they were en masse.
Did I blush!
The harder I tried not to, the redder I became. Should I make a detour? No way: There was no other route. So should I arrive at school early? No no: my mum would have wanted to know why.
Solution: Wear my cap pulled well down over the off-side of my face and study the brick wall on my near-side in preparation for becoming an architect instead of a rocket scientist.

If only I’d known about thick white make-up!

Blushing

Some boys wear it.
But how touching it is to see a sweet young person blushing. I am sure you were adorable. Lucky brick wall to have had your attention.

Blushing
Maybe, but I passed on the architect (figuratively speaking) and rocket scientists were ten-a-penny by the time Sputnik looped the loop (or so I’ve been told)
Obviously I did consider a career in building - on a huge scale of course - but pyramids were out of fashion so --- I decided to capitalise on my natural attribute and studied facial blushing theory right up to ‘A’ level.
Failed the practical though – Can’t do it when somebody’s not watching
