Quotation
Dear Sally,

I saw 'Yes' in Brixton at the Ritzy the other week and was really moved. I thought it was brilliant and have enormous respect for you for completing this amazing project.

I am currently in the final throws of (my own project:) a PhD thesis on public accountability of scientists and medical ethics. I really wanted to use a quotation from the film at the beginning of it. (From the bit where she is, I think, talking to her friend and says in her head, something like, 'must I justify myself again...') I have tried to get hold of a copy of the screen play but haven't been able to.

I was wondering if you could help me.

Best wishes,

Sarah

The screenplay to YES is available through Amazon. Go to the screenplay page of this site to find the link.

In the meantime this is the scene that includes the quote you mentioned (please note the inability to include italics and correct formatting here):

Kate: What was the conference about?

SHE: They want an ethical way out,
So that the public doesn't have to feel
We're killing living things-

Kate: -but you?

SHE: Kate!

Kate: I'm sorry, but you know I really hate
To think of those poor little-

SHE: -cells. They're cells. That's all they are.
(impatiently)

Kate: -Sorry!

They run on in silence for a moment.

Kate: Do they feel pain?
(cont'd,
tentatively)

SHE: Why must I justify myself again?

They stop running, each lost in their own thoughts. and then something in kate's expression drives SHE to change the subject.
