Derek would have loved YES...
I read your beautiful BBC blog from Dungeness -- it made me think how much Derek Jarman would have loved the politics, aesthetics, humour, asperity, sexy male dancing & music of YES. There are so few film-makers working today who keep the spirit of his film-making alive -- perhaps the "first world" has become too smug to embrace the ethic you describe of making a film with what you have (or painting, or poem, or whatever). Do you see other film-makers, or artists, who seem to you to be the "children" of his art? It makes me think of Tilda Swinton's talk at the Edinburgh Film Festival deploring the loss of the "Jarman tradition" (not that he was exactly traditional ;) in British, even European, cinema. So thanks Sally for keeping it alive and vital, thinking with heart & head.
