It is easy to see from her previous work that Joan is an extraordinary performer; she is highly intelligent, works in a profound and disciplined way, with great integrity and subltety. When I met her to discuss this role I was struck both by her open, modest attitude, her beauty and her willingness to take chances. I also saw a quiet radiance that I knew could really turn to fire. Working with her turned out to be a joy, on every level. She is an extremely courageous, hard-working collaborator. We wept through some rehearsals. We also had a lot of good laughs. I cannot praise her highly enough.
